Charcoal

A fluidised bed combustor (CSIRO technology) will pyrolysise (controlled carbonisation of wood) the woody mallee feedstock into charcoal, and simultaneously produce renewable electricity using a steam turbo generator.

Charcoal has large Australian and international markets as a cooking fuel and in metallurgical processes. The market for charcoal in the developed world is approximately 1 million t / pa, most of which is traded internationally.
